Brunch, Buffet or Dinner: How Thanksgiving Plays Out Across the Ventana and Foothills Resorts This Year

October 29, 2026

Four resort kitchens between Hacienda del Sol Road and Ventana Canyon have posted Thanksgiving Day seatings for Thursday, November 26. Three of them finish by mid-afternoon or early evening. The fourth, Flying V at Loews Ventana Canyon, doesn't start until 4 p.m. It runs until 9, and at $95 a person it has the lowest adult price of the four.

Most families compare menus and then work the day around them. Along this stretch of the Catalina Foothills, the hour you want to sit down picks most of the venue for you, and the ages of the children at the table decide most of the bill.

The day, read by the clock

Every seating below is for Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, listed by when the doors open.

  1. 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Canyon Club at Loews Ventana Canyon. A holiday brunch with Thanksgiving favorites, breakfast classics, fresh seafood, carving stations, desserts and live music.
  2. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., La Luz at The Westin La Paloma. A buffet with Gulf shrimp and snow crab, turkey and prime rib carved to order, traditional sides, live music, a photographer, crafts and a kids' corner.
  3. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort. A buffet the resort describes as traditional Thanksgiving favorites with a Southwestern twist.
  4. 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Flying V at Loews Ventana Canyon. A three-course prix fixe with cast-iron cornbread, a choice of turkey, short rib, salmon or pasta, and holiday desserts.

Look at the overlap. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., all three daytime options are serving at once. After 3 p.m., La Paloma is finished. After 6 p.m., Hacienda del Sol is too, and Flying V is the only seat left.

Families who eat late, or who want an afternoon at home with the parade and the game before going out, have one resort option on this list. It happens to be the one inside Ventana Canyon, at the same Loews property on 7000 N. Resort Drive that runs the morning brunch.

One resort, both ends of the day

Loews Ventana Canyon is the only property here offering two separate Thanksgiving formats in two of its restaurants. The Canyon Club opens the day with brunch and Flying V closes it with a seated dinner. The windows don't overlap. Brunch ends at 2 p.m. and dinner starts at 4.

The two meals also price in opposite directions. The Canyon Club brunch is $125 per adult. The Flying V dinner is $95, with an optional wine pairing for another $45. So at the same resort, the open-ended brunch with seafood and carving stations costs $30 more per adult than the plated dinner. An adult who adds the pairing pays $140 at Flying V, which is $15 more than brunch.

Booking runs through Resy for both. The Canyon Club's listing links to a Thanksgiving Day reservation page for The Canyon Club. For dinner, go through the Flying V website, where the reservation link points to November 26, 2026.

Where the children's age cutoffs change the bill

At the adult level, the three daytime options sit within $10 of each other: $115 at Hacienda del Sol, $119++ at La Paloma and $125 at The Canyon Club. The real spread comes from how each resort defines a child.

Seating Hours Adult Child price Free
The Canyon Club brunch, Loews 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. $125 $42, ages 6 to 12 5 and under
La Luz buffet, Westin La Paloma 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. $119++ $60, ages 10 and under None listed
Hacienda del Sol buffet 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. $115 $50, ages 6 to 12 5 and under
Flying V dinner, Loews 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. $95 None listed None listed

La Paloma lists one children's rate covering every child 10 and under, and no free tier. The Canyon Club and Hacienda del Sol both seat children 5 and under at no charge and start charging at age 6.

Take a table of two adults and two children, ages 4 and 8. At Hacienda del Sol that comes to $280 before tax and gratuity. At The Canyon Club it's $292. At La Paloma it's $358, plus whatever the "++" covers. Same table, same holiday, nearly $80 apart, and the gap comes almost entirely from the 4-year-old. Change the 8-year-old to an 11-year-old and the math moves again, because La Paloma's children's rate stops at 10.

The Flying V listing doesn't give a children's price, so ask about one when you book if younger guests are coming.

La Paloma does put the most into the youngest guests. Its listing is the only one of the four that names a kids' corner, crafts and a photographer. For a table full of cousins under 10, that may be worth the difference.

How each table gets booked

The resorts take reservations three different ways, and that affects how early you need to act.

  • Westin La Paloma books through OpenTable, and reservations are prepaid. The booking panel showed seatings from 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. The resort is at 3800 E. Sunrise Drive, and its Holiday Splendor page links to the full menu.
  • Hacienda del Sol takes reservations by phone at (520) 529-3500. The resort is at 5501 N. Hacienda del Sol Road, and its resort events page links to the Thanksgiving menu.
  • Loews Ventana Canyon books both of its seatings on Resy, through the links above.

Because La Paloma's reservations are prepaid, the deposit is part of the decision. Hacienda del Sol's phone line suits a host who wants to talk through seating for a large group. Resy suits whoever ends up booking from a phone at the kitchen counter.

The tables that aren't on the public list

Ventana Canyon's other resort serves a different crowd. At The Lodge at Ventana Canyon, the Catalina Dining Room is for club members only, and Ventana Bar & Grill is open to club members and Lodge guests. Members planning a holiday meal there should check with the club directly. Its dining pages don't list a public Thanksgiving event.

That leaves the four seatings above as the confirmed resort options for the general public on this side of town, and Flying V as the only one serving after 6 p.m.

This Sunday, a different holiday at Hacienda del Sol

Before Thanksgiving arrives, Hacienda del Sol has a holiday table of its own. Its Día de los Muertos brunch runs Sunday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the local mariachi band Luz de Luna. The menu mixes the resort's usual brunch favorites with Mexican-inspired dishes, including seafood ceviche and tamales, and tres leches cake and pan de muerto for dessert. The resort describes it as a way to honor loved ones who have passed.

Pricing is $90 per adult and $45 for children 6 to 12, and children 5 and under eat free. Reservations go through the same number, (520) 529-3500. It's also an easy way to get a feel for Hacienda del Sol's buffet before deciding whether to bring the whole family back on the 26th.

Picking by hour and by headcount

The choices come down to a few plain rules:

  • Morning crowd, mixed ages, kids under 6: The Canyon Club brunch or Hacienda del Sol, where those children eat free.
  • Midday with young kids who need things to do: La Luz at La Paloma, with crafts and a kids' corner, priced for the extra programming.
  • A long afternoon with guests arriving at different times: Hacienda del Sol, the longest window of the four, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Evening, or a table of adults who want a plated meal: Flying V, from 4 to 9 p.m., at the lowest adult price on the list.

If guests are flying in for the holiday, each of these listings gives you a clear way to plan around their arrival time.
